Well, I decided to return for another go at this game. I think Justin did a pretty good description of me last time when he said, "He was passionate, intelligent, conflicted, and compelling all at the same time...he just had a hard time knowing what to say and who to say it to."
So, looking at this cast is interesting. From the members of my season we have:
Carly, who I think I went out of my way to criticize in my confessionals.
Tina, who I was never on a tribe with but who is apparently a massive troll.
and Ben, who I liked but tried to vote out at the end of last game.
Basically, my strategy is going to be not to pull a Francesca at the start of the game. I've over played in my previous games, so I'm determined not to do that this time. I'm going to try to get in an alliance, but not come off strong. Maybe just chat with people see who likes me and keep my head down for the start.
It's not really how I like to do things, but in a game of returnees you can't start scheming immediately unless you have somebody who you can trust with your schemes.
I'm hoping to come off as nice, fun, but a bit naive. In other words, make myself usable so that people will use me.
We'll see how well I can pull this off. Survivor is a subtle game, and in the past I've been anything but subtle.
Keys to remember:
1.) People have their own ideas
2.) There's no such thing as a secret
3.) People will keep you if they think you'll help their game
4.) Which means don't be too obvious about wanting the win.
I don't know if Dominic is reading this, but I remember him talking about how he typically is voted out early merge. I think that that's because he breaks rule 4 a lot, which means he's also breaking rule 3. He's so gungho and plays the game so hard that people think he'll stab them in the back at some point.
I think that learning Survivor requires that you look at the players who didn't win, not that did. There are certain themes that come up over and over again. There's the over-strategizers (Francesca). There's the weak pre-merge boots (Hope). There's the people who don't make connections (Julia). Corrine went out because she got too confident, and also because she missed an opportunity when Phillip wanted to split the votes.
Anyway, that's my first random ramble and digression of the season. If I manage to stick around there will probably be many more. Liam 1.5 reporting in (because I don't think I'm at 2.0 yet).
