Each round, you will be competing to get a different 'spirit animal'. These spirits have been specially designed by God to test the human character of each individual and each group as a whole. The nature of these spirits will be reflected in the challenge presented. Winning means that you have proven your worth as one of the few survivors of Earth and that you will be spared (for that round at least). The twist this season is the Garden of Eden, which is located in the middle of both of your communities. You can choose to visit the Garden of Eden individually. There are two specific things in the Garden of Eden that can help you...or hurt you...along this journey: 1. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good & Evil: God has resurrected this tree in order to test your patience and respect. There are 5 apples sitting in the tree, and you can choose to take one at any time. You will be given an advantage (how minimal or grand it is will depend completely on chance) at the subsequent Judgement. However, you will receive a disadvantage as well...some of which could potentially be fatal. The disadvantages could be at that same Judgement or at a later time. To pick an apple, you must first send me a message saying that you wish to visit the Garden of Eden, then you will choose to select an apple. If you chose to take an apple after Judgement has been posted, it will NOT be able to be played until the following Judgement. You must visit the garden before a Judgement starts. 2. The Euphrates River: There are three swords hidden in the river thames (swords being the equivalent of a HII). At random times in the Eden forum, I will post clues that will help you find these swords. These clues will help you figure out a certain category. Once you think you know the category, you will try to find "fish" in your confessional by posting different words in that category. If you've posted a correct word, you will see a fish pop up in your post. It'll have a certain letter enscribed on it.. Each sword corresponds to a category, and to get a sword, you must find the 10 fish that correspond to its category and make a word out of the letter that is on each fish (10 in total). Similar colored fish should be grouped together. Once you think you have figured out the word, you will PM me that you wish to visit the Garden of Eden, then send me the word. For some logistics: if it is a proper noun or phrase, there will be no spaces, punctuation, or capitalization in the word.

It's time for a little more information on the Garden of Eden. When you ask to go to Eden, there'll be a time lapse between when you ask to go and when you actually get to perform the action of (at least) 6 hours. Anyone can go to Eden at any time, starting now. If you do go to Eden, whether it be to the tree or to the river, you will receive a "tick" which will alter how you speak or how you behave. The tick will last for 24 hours after you've performed your action. The tick will be the only signal that someone has gone to Eden. Furthermore, only one idol will be available at a time- meaning you should only be looking for one category. Once it is found, a new one will be made available. You can find all previous information here: gvse5.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=52&page=1

The History of Matches By Mary Bellis In 1669, phosphorous was discovered - phosphorous was soon used in match heads.
In 1680, an Irish physicist named Robert Boyle (Boyle's Law) coated a small piece of paper with phosphorous and coated a small piece of wood with sulfur. He then rubbed the wood across the paper and created a fire. However, there was no useable match created by Robert Boyle.
In 1827, John Walker, English chemist and apothecary, discovered that if he coated the end of a stick with certain chemicals and let them dry, he could start a fire by striking the stick anywhere. These were the first friction matches. The chemicals he used were antimony sulfide, potassium chlorate, gum, and starch. Walker did not patent his "Congreves" as he called the matches (alluding to the Congreve's rocket invented in 1808). Walker was a former chemist at 59 High Street, in Stockton-on-Tees, England. His first sale of the matches was on April 7, 1827, to a Mr. Hixon, a solicitor in the town. Walker made little money from his invention. He died in 1859 at the age of 78 and is buried in the Norton Parish Churchyard in Stockton. (br1781- d1859) One Samuel Jones saw Walker's "Congreves" and decided to market them, calling his matches "Lucifers" "Lucifers" became popular especially among smokers, but they had a bad burning odor.
In 1830, the French chemist, Charles Sauria, created a match made with white phosphorous. Sauria's matches had no odor, but they made people sick with a ailment dubbed "phossy jaw". White phosphorous is poisonous.
In 1855, safety matches were patented by Johan Edvard Lundstrom of Sweden. Lundstrom put red phosphorus on the sandpaper outside the box and the other ingredients on the match head, solving the problem of "phossy jaw" and creating a match that could only be safely lit off the prepared, special striking, surface.
In 1889, Joshua Pusey invented the matchbook, he called his matchbook matches "Flexibles". Pusey's patent was unsuccessfully challenged by the Diamond Match Company who had invented a similar matchbook (their striker was on the outside, Pusey's was on the inside). His patent was later purchased by the Diamond Match Company in 1896 for $4,000 and a job offer.
In 1910, the Diamond Match Company patented the first nonpoisonous match in the U.S., which used a safe chemical called sesquisulfide of phophorous.
United States President William H. Taft publicly asked Diamond Match to release their patent for the good of mankind. They did on January 28, 1911, Congress placed a high tax on matches made with white phosphorous.
Evolution of the Match The lucifer match has attained its present high state of perfection by a long series of inventions of various degrees of merit, the most important of which resulted from the progress of chemical science.
Match Definition A match consists of three basic parts: a head, which initiates combustion via various materials like phosphorous; a tinder substance to pick up and burn the flame, usually a piece of wood or cardboard; and a handle, often the same as the tinder.
Striking It Rich: Match Collecting Back in the days when advertising was mainly word-of-mouth, cast members from the Mendelson Opera Company conceived a unique, and diminutive, way to let people know about their next performance. The opera company decided in 1895 to purchase about 100 blank matchbooks from the Diamond Match Company.

Apparently Ben didn't tell her quite what he was working on and of course she's upset. He tells Rachel a government contract isn't the worst thing, but she asks him if he doesn't see the potential uses of Ben's invention for warfare (aha! I was hoping this show would turn into Outbreak! When does Dustin Hoffman show up and fix everything?). He, um, does recognize those uses. But he really wants that sweet, sweet government pork.
Present. Miles points out how many wagon treads are on the road, all going the same direction. Aaron asks Nora what's going on with Miles, because normally Miles is standoffish and self-preservationist, but now he wants to rescue a stranger. Nora points out that those kids' parents were killed when Miles was the HBIC of the Monroe Militia. Ah, so he has a conscience and it's guilty.
Miles stops and draws his sword, then head into the trees and drags Michael out, because Michael, like every other kid on this damn show, is shit at taking directions. Miles observes dryly, "It's irritating when a dumb kid tells you what to do, isn't it?" Charlie does not appear pleased by the irony. She tells Michael to stick nearby, and he whistles again, calling up three of his buddies, two little and one Jerry O'Connell-in-Stand by Me-sized, which Aaron thinks is just great: "Like a pack of hairless Ewoks." Don't be so quick to call other people rotund and essentially useless there, Beardo.
The wagon carrying Peter and a girl pull up to the shore of what looks like a sizable lake. Other kids are getting militia uniforms, so this must be the militia intake depot. There's a large ship out in the middle of the lake. I wonder what the Monroe Militia advertisements have replaced "Be All That You Can Be" with -- "See the Country by Raping and Pillaging"?
Nora offers the little girl some water and while Aaron is distracted, Vern grabs the pendant from his bag on the ground. Aaron demands it back and Vern tries to evade him, but trips over his own fat, clumsy feet. So you'd think that Aaron would feel some solidarity with the poor hormone-addled fool. Miles notices the skirmish and asks what the pendant is. Aaron says it's just his necklace and Miles observes that he seems nervous, because he's sweating. Aaron is kind of always nervous and sweating, though. He's like Jerry that way. Nora distracts Miles from sweaty Aaron by calling him over to look at something.

Shores of Lake Militiaville. The gang passes a lighthouse and sees the ship on the lake. Charlie asks what it is and Miles says it's a militia soldier factory. Kids go in, branded soldier-bots come out. Miles says it's impossible to rescue someone from that ship.
Rachel's flashback. Gigantically pregnant, she's headed for the car. She falls to her knees in pain, squealing for help. At the doctor's office, she and Ben see fetus Danny on the sonogram and the doctor says he's missing a blood vessel in the heart, so his lungs and other organs aren't getting enough blood. They can induce labor and operate on the fetus, but he'll probably be too weak to survive. Or Rachel can continue her pregnancy and he might not live through labor.
Rachel's in a prison cell, her face looking bruised, reflecting. Some men drag Brad in, all beat up, and chuck him in a cell near her. She coughs and he calls out. He thought she was dead. She asks if he hid his pendant and lies that some of the guards are with the rebels, so if he tells her where the pendant is, they can go get it before Monroe does. Brad thinks it's too risky, but Rachel pushes. But Brad has figured out Rachel is the one who told Monroe about the pendants and he's not talking.
Miles is shooting down Charlie's truly excellent idea of going into the ship to get Peter out. (Although I don't think we've actually seen any girl militia members so far, just Nora dressed up as one. Maybe the ladies are all deployed to different parts of Monroe-topia?) He says what happens on the boat, what happens to those kids -- including Peter and Danny -- is all Miles's own fault. Charlie tries on her world-weary, cynical face, saying that with their luck, there's no way they can get Danny back, so they might as well try to save a kid who's a little closer to hand -- Peter. And then he caves to her latest idiot plan? Miles, I cannot believe you are going along with another of her idiotic plans. He says to get Peter back, they'll need a master key. "And that's going to hurt," he says.
